MeshPath Terrain Data & Third-Party Notices
Notice version: October 2, 2026
These notices apply to third-party data, software, and services used by MeshPath. They do not imply that any provider sponsors, endorses, certifies, or warrants MeshPath. Where a third-party license grants rights or imposes obligations that differ from Apple’s Standard EULA or the MeshPath Supplemental Safety and Use Terms, the third-party license controls for that material.
1. Mapzen Terrain Tiles on AWS Open Data
MeshPath downloads one-degree Skadi/HGT elevation tiles from:
https://elevation-tiles-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/skadi/
The AWS Open Data Registry entry identifies this as Terrain Tiles, a global bare-earth terrain-height dataset managed by “Mapzen, a Linux Foundation project,” and points to Mapzen/Tilezen’s attribution terms. MeshPath is not affiliated with or endorsed by AWS, Mapzen, Tilezen, or the Linux Foundation.
Mapzen Terrain Tiles combine multiple underlying datasets. Source coverage and resolution vary by place. The service documentation states that attribution is required for many providers. The required provider credits are reproduced below:
Mapzen Terrain Tiles (Skadi/HGT), hosted on AWS Open Data. This composite can contain different source datasets by location. MeshPath does not identify each sample's contributing dataset; the upstream provider credits are retained below.

U.S. Government terrain material is not subject to copyright protection within the United States; other components retain their respective rights.
MeshPath decompresses, interpolates and resamples heights, then combines them with radio assumptions to make derived profiles and overlays. These modifications are not approved by the providers. Terrain data are not for navigation; source data and derived results have no guarantee of accuracy or suitability.

Recorded calculation sources
New calculations save the tile files actually sampled, the configured/download URL, a SHA-256 digest of the decompressed HGT bytes, and available response metadata. Downloaded response bytes receive a separate digest. ETag values are retained as server identifiers, not treated as SHA-256 checksums. Cached source records are reused only when the saved digest matches the cached height data.
When supplied, X-Imagery-Sources identifies source images contributing to an entire tile, not the original provider of each sampled height. Missing or unrecognized source metadata remains unidentified. Source footprints describe geographic coverage and are not used to infer a verified contributor to a particular downloaded tile version. Older results without recorded provenance remain unknown. The per-result Elevation sources screen provides the complete recorded tile list and an exportable source record.
Relevant source licenses and limitations
- U.S. 3DEP, SRTM, and GMTED2010 are described as U.S. Government/public-domain data in the cited attribution document, with source-credit requests and provider disclaimers. SRTM’s treatment outside the United States may differ as described by its source terms.
- ETOPO1 is U.S. Government data from NOAA/NCEI. NOAA’s stated limitation says it is useful for planning and modeling but not suitable for navigation, disclaims warranty, and disclaims liability for errors, omissions, or system failure.

MeshPath modifications and derived products
MeshPath downloads .hgt.gz tiles, decompresses them, parses signed elevation samples, bilinearly interpolates values, resamples elevations along user-selected paths or grids, and combines them with user-supplied parameters and propagation calculations to produce profiles, classifications, metrics, and raster overlays. These are modifications and derivative calculations made by teeologica, not by the underlying providers. No provider has reviewed or approved them.
Terrain-data warning
Terrain Tiles are a composite with variable age, resolution, vertical datum, source accuracy, coverage, and processing. “Bare earth” data may omit buildings and vegetation and may not reflect current construction, excavation, erosion, landslides, water, snow, or other conditions. Tiles may contain voids, seams, artifacts, interpolated values, and errors. MeshPath’s sampling and transformations can add error. Do not use terrain tiles or MeshPath output for navigation, surveying, property boundaries, obstacle clearance, aviation, construction, engineering certification, emergency operations, or any safety-critical purpose.
Direct tile requests also disclose an approximate one-degree area and ordinary network metadata to AWS or the bucket operator. See the MeshPath Privacy Policy.
2. NTIA Irregular Terrain Model (ITM / Longley–Rice)
MeshPath includes a modified integration of software from the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (NTIA/ITS) Irregular Terrain Model repository.

MeshPath changes and lack of endorsement
Teeologica added an Apple-platform bridge, Swift input/output conversion, terrain-profile preparation, application-specific sampling and fallbacks, user settings, classifications, persistence, and displays. These modifications have not been reviewed, validated, approved, or endorsed by NTIA. “Longley–Rice” and “ITM” identify the model lineage; they are not certification marks or performance guarantees.
3. Apple services
MeshPath uses Apple frameworks and services including SwiftUI, SwiftData, MapKit/Apple Maps, and StoreKit/App Store purchasing. Use of Apple services is subject to Apple’s applicable terms and privacy policies. Apple map attribution displayed by the operating system must not be removed or obscured. Apple does not sponsor, endorse, or warrant MeshPath or its added overlays and calculations.
4. No provider warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by their respective terms and applicable law, third-party data, software, and services are provided without a MeshPath warranty. Teeologica does not expand a provider’s warranty or accept authority to speak for a provider. The MeshPath Supplemental Safety and Use Terms apply in addition to these notices.
5. Device and brand references
Third-party product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. MeshPath uses names such as Heltec, LILYGO, RAKwireless, SenseCAP, Yaesu, Icom and Midland only to identify example devices. No manufacturer sponsors, endorses or certifies MeshPath or its presets. MeshPath is not an official device-management app and does not connect to or configure these radios.
Profiles are independently assembled planning assumptions. A name does not guarantee performance, firmware compatibility, channel legality or exact installed-radio characteristics. Device logos, product photographs and manuals are not bundled with the profiles. Manufacturer reference links lead to third-party sites under their own terms.
6. Geographic reference data
Map display masks use generalized U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2024 state boundaries. These are cartographic reference data, not surveyed or legal boundaries. The source and processing record is bundled as US-boundary-source.txt. No Census Bureau affiliation or endorsement is implied.
